6 Movies You Should Watch Before Spider-Man: No Way Home
We finally have some news on the most awaited third Spider-Man movie, and it’s gotten us excited, for good reason. With the pandemic delaying things in the MCU (and the entire world), and Marvel’s Disney+ releases keeping us occupied to streaming, it’s been a while since we’ve watched a Marvel movie in the cinemas, considering how Black Widow was released in limited theaters across the World, with countries still practicing lockdown not opening their cinemas for the last movie screening of Scarlet Johansson’s iconic character.
In fact, the last MCU movie we did watch was Spider-Man: Far From Home, where Tom Holland’s Peter comes to terms with the death of Iron Man and goes to battle against Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio.
As you can see in the No Way Home teaser, Mysterio leaves New York in chaos after revealing Spider-Man’s true identity, and now Peter must do everything in his power, in this case, partner up with Dr. Strange, to bring the World back to normal i.e. a time when no one knew his true identity, including his closest friends. But what you must already know about this movie is, that it’s not like any other Marvel movie of the past, i.e. the cinematic crossover with Sony.
Okay sure, crossovers aren’t a new thing for MCU, especially after Infinity War and Endgame which were the most ambitious crossovers in the history of cinema, but this time, things are getting a little twisted in Peter’s world with both the previous Spider-Men of the last 2 decades rumored to make an appearance on the screen with Tom Holland in this movie.
So here’s a list of movies you need to watch before Spider-Man: No Way Home gets released in December, mainly to get an idea of the villains who have been teased in the movie, and the potential actors who will show up; and also get some well-intended nostalgia before it all goes down in Dr. Strange’s created multiverse.
Part 1: The Spider-Man Trilogy
Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker may not have looked like a teenager, but there’s no doubt to the nostalgia his Spider-Man is capable of making us feel. After all, this is the one Spider-Man trilogy we all grew up watching and obsessing over; to the extent that even today, all of social media is divided with a majority saying Tobey’s Spider-Man has been the best among them all.
Whether you agree with that or not, there’s no doubt it will result in some very real and serious goosebumps if we get to watch him partner up with Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland in the new MCU movie.
1. Spider-Man 1
2. Spider-Man 2
3. Spider-Man 3
Part 2: The Amazing Spider-Man Movies
Although the Amazing Spider-Man movies did not make an impression on the audience the way Sony would’ve wanted, to the point that the third movie was canceled before it even went into production, mainly because by that time the MCU was fighting with Sony for the rights to Spider-Man and then cast Tom Holland in the role for Captain America: Civil War. But there’s still no doubt that Andrew Garfield did a good job of what he was asked while portraying Peter Parker and his alter-ego, and it will be a delight to see him make an appearance alongside his predecessor and successor.
4. The Amazing Spider-Man
5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Part 3: MCU’s Spider-Man
This one’s a no-brainer. You can’t really watch the chaos caused by Mysterio if you haven’t caught up with the story that went down in Far From Home. Besides, even if you have watched it, it’s always fun to rewatch any Marvel movie, especially those involving Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
6. Spider-Man: Far From Home
Bonus Watch: Netflix’s Daredevil
We may not be right with this assumption, but there are “some” rumors that Matt Murdock may also make an appearance in the movie, mainly as a lawyer for Peter Parker. And who better to play Matt Murdock/Daredevil than the ever-talented Charlie Cox, who did an amazing job of it in Netflix’s Marvel shows. So just for the sake of this assumption, you should go ahead and watch the series if you haven’t, not just for Spider-Man but also to watch the amazing show and catch up with its story, so that you know the basics if Marvel ever brings Daredevil to the MCU.
The reason why everyone’s so sure of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men to cameo is because of the promo teasing the appearance of two supervillains from the 2002 trilogy, Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin, and the years of rumors that developed as this movie was being shot, with several “shreds of evidence” suggesting Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were present on set for the shooting. With Sandman and Electro also rumored to show up, the former being a reference to the third movie in the trilogy while the latter belonging to The Amazing Spider-Man, there’s no doubt their opposing heroes would appear too to help Tom’s Peter and Dr. Strange to battle the villains and restore the world to normal.
Whether they do make an appearance or not, whether we’ll see the infamous 3 Spider-Men pointing at each other meme come to life, it all remains to be seen come December 17th. But whatever happens, this is the first time since Endgame that a Marvel movie has created so much hype around the internet, breaking the 24-hour viewing record on YouTube, and making fans across the world cross their fingers, not just about the movie, but also the possibility of whether they’ll get to watch it in the cinemas given Covid-19 restrictions. All of it will unveil in just 4 months, but till then, you can watch this list of movies to entertain yourself. Have fun!
