No year needed a bunch of good quality tv more than the Covid-19 ridden 2020. With people looking for ways to entertain themselves at home, OTT platforms and other means of media became one of the major ways to spend one’s time. And fortunately, the tv shows everyone watched were more than well-deserving enough to provide quality content through their plots and intriguing stories. So here are 5 such shows that broke records in 2020:

1. Dark – Season 4:

The mystery drama series presents a complex puzzle packed with surprises that involves a network of curious characters, all of whom, whether they know it or not, have a link to the troubled past of their city, Winden. The tale contains supernatural elements that go back to1986 in the same city “ DARK” is the first original german series created for Netflix.

The show became a favorite among the audience not only in Germany but in the entire world. Dark, whose last season was released in 2020, shattered records that were set by shows like The Crown and Black Mirror.

2. The Umbrella Academy – Season 2:

The Umbrella Academy is perhaps one of the most well-loved shows on Netflix due to its intriguing and unique plot, amazing characters, and superhero-ey yet humorous content.

Its season 2, released in August 2020, was deemed to be even more successful than its first season, being number 1 on the top trending chart for upto 2 weeks. Not only this, but it’s been reported as the most popular show of summer 2020, among other contenders.

3. The Crown – Season 4:

This lavish, Netflix original drama has been a fan favorite ever since its launch in 2016. But season 4 became even more a trend once fans found out it will be introducing the story of Princess Diana, one of the most famous women around the globe whose death still remains a mystery. Although its records haven’t been officially shared by Netflix yet, there’s no doubt it’s been the talk of the town, alongside Queen’s Gambit, on social media.

4. The Queen’s Gambit – Season 1:

In this limited series, orphaned chess prodigy Beth Harmon struggles with addiction, in search to become the greatest chess player in the world, set in the cold world war period. The show broke tremendous records worldwide after trending top on almost half of the countries where Netflix is streamed, that’s like half the countries of the world.

Not only this, the show’s success also led to the book on which it’s based, written by Walter Trevis in 1985, started topping the charts of bestsellers in New York for the first time in 35 years.

5. Schitt’s Creek – Season 6:

Produced, and acted in, by Daniel and Eugene Levy, among the likes of Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy, Schitt’s Creek is a hilarious sit-com with a plot and characters that anyone will fall in love with.

Although it remained a hit among fans through its course of 5 seasons, the record-breaking part of the show came in 2020, with the release of its sixth and final season, when Schitt’s Creek bagged all the Emmy awards in the comedy category; giving it a successful farewell that was very well-deserved for the hilarious and dramatic sit-com.
