Being a drama plus a comedy, one might expect The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel to be sugarcoated and unrealistic, but it is quite the opposite. One of the best things about this show is how relatable the characters and their very real issues are. How Midge Maisel deals with her marriage and her unfaithful husband, and the very realistic yet ridiculous advice given to her by her parents. How Midge accidentally ends up making people laugh through her journey hits too close to home.

Another interesting thing about this show is how Midge and Suzie both seem like they have polar opposite personalities but are still best friends trying to one-up each other in supporting the other. I feel like for once, instead of showing cat fights and unrealistic male fantasies, female friendship was portrayed in the right manner.

2) Fighting Patriarchy in the ‘50s way

The fact that Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creator of Gilmore Girls, created and directed MMM should be a reason enough to watch this show. The brilliance with which Mrs. Maisel tackles the many hindrances in her life that would not exist if it weren’t for patriarchy is quite brilliant. Making it as a female comic must feel difficult now, so watching Midge thrive as a comic in that era feels quite inspiring. It is even more amazing to watch the show as it is set in the 1950s because the second wave of feminism was yet to come. Although it is alarming that 60 years have passed since that era, and we are still fighting those battles. But it is astounding to watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and imagine how all the women that came before us broke so many social boundaries to get us where we are now.

3) It Makes You Laugh Out Loud – For Real

If you’ve watched Gilmore Girls, you already know that you’ll be laughing out loud. The show becomes even more fun to watch what with how the witty one-liners and the cleverly crafted punchlines that are so effortlessly delivered.
