When Pakistan and India used to be on considerably better relationships, India’s channel Zee Zindagi used to solely air Pakistani dramas. These dramas were loved by viewers both in India and Pakistan. It was quite a popular channel which introduced major Pakistani dramas to the Indian audience, mainly Humsafar, Dhoop Chaon and Zindagi Gulzar Hai. But the channel stopped airing Pakistani dramas due to tensions on the border.
Now, the Zee entertainment channel has an online platform named Zee5, which is home to many Pakistani dramas such as Bin-Roye and Diyar-e-Dil.
Check out the 5 most talked about Pakistani shows on Zee5 that you should add to your watch list:
was a rollercoaster ride of tears, laughs, and trying to come up with our own little manifesto of how to deal with misogyny. Although there was a lot of criticism, that was due to the fact that Churails gave us what other Pakistani shows couldn’t, i.e. pure rage against the patriarchy. Released on August 11th 2020, the show was loved by both Indian and Pakistani fans, and is considered to be one of the best Pakistani dramas on Zee5.
2. Aik Jhooti Love Story
Directed by Mehreen Jabbar, and written by Umera Ahmad, Aik Jhooti Love Story is giving us major romcom feels. The director+writer duo has given us our favorite classics like Zindagi Gulzaar Hai, Daam, Malaal and Doraha, so when it was announced, fans knew that they were going to love it instantly, and they did.
The show was released on Zee5 on October 30th, 2020, and stars Bilal Abbas Khan, Madiha Imam, Kinza Razzak, Furqan Qureshi, Kiran Haq, Beo Zafar, Muhammad Ahmed and others.
3. Abdullahpur Ka Devdas
Another exciting series starring Bilal Abbas Khan, Sarah Khan, Naumaan Ijaz, Saveera Nadeem, among others. The name tells us that this series is a bit different from the usual Pakistani shows, and that is what is so exciting about all these Pakistani releases on Zee5.
4. Dhoop Ki Deewar
Who doesn’t love Ahad and Sajjal’s duo on screen? Dhoop ki Deewar has a remarkable cast, starring Sajal Aly, Ahad Raza Mir, Adnan Jafar, Samiya Mumtaz, Zaib Rehman, and others. It’s a cross-border story of a patriotic India who ends up getting to know an equally patriotic Pakistani. Rumors say the show, other than being released on Zee5, will also be released on Netflix. Exciting, isn’t it?
5. Qatil Haseenaon ke Naam
Women have always been portrayed as patient, forgiving, and the epitome of enduring the worst of the worst only because the society “expects” it of them. But this show takes all of those stereotypes and throws them out of the window, showcasing the unapologetic and bold side of women that the society doesn’t want to accept. Directed by British Indian director Meenu Gaur, and written by Gaur and Farjad Nabi, this is a much-awaited show as it aims to provide us with the same level of excitement that Churails did after its release in 2020.
