It can be pretty time-consuming, emotionally draining, and incredibly difficult on your eyes to sift through complicated verses of the text. If you’d like to read more easily while still understanding the text, check out the tips given below:

Preview

Before reading a text, previewing can give you the advantage of understanding the themes of the text before going through it. You must scan the whole text from the beginning till the end. Proper attention should be given to the headings and subheadings, as well as phrases that are highlighted or written in bold, and quotations and dates.

Plan

Plan what you want to achieve from the text. Is there a specific goal that you want to establish? After thinking of your goal, read the text accordingly, with your goals in mind. Write down any questions that you would like to be prepared to clarify by the conclusion. After this, based on your understanding, decide what the author of the text wanted to establish in writing the text.

In the same way, change the strategy depending on the kind of content you’re about to read through. If you are reading a lengthy legal or science document, you must generally expect to read several sections rather steadily and attentively than you would while reading a book or article.

Mindfulness

Reduce background sounds, disturbances, and disruptions. If you find that you’re not able to concentrate on the text but constantly thinking about something else, gently put your attention back to the subject.

Put Peripheral Vision to Use

Instead of reading every single word, shift your eyes in a searching motion, hopping from one hunk of words – that consists of 3 to 5 words – to the next. You can largely benefit from your peripheral vision if you want to speed read. You can do this by scanning the whole sentence and focusing more on the starting and ending of a sentence instead of reading it whole.

Summarize

At the end of your read, jot down a few sentences which can act as a preview of the whole text. You can also answer and clarify some questions which you had before reading the text, as now you have an understanding of those topics. Summarizing the text can also help you remember the content for a longer period of time, and if you forget, you can always come back and read the summary again.

Timing Your Speed

Monitor your improvement by practicing timing yourself every day, or practice the above tips anytime you want to time yourself. it will offer a great reason to pursue to achieve your best pace. Track how many words per minute you can read, and if you’re able to understand the text at a greater speed.
